The OnePlus 5T revolutionizes navigation on Android by copying the iPhone X

To develop the latest Android Oreo beta on the OnePlus 5T, OnePlus was inspired by the iPhone X and its navigation gestures. A new option, available exclusively on this test version, allows users of a OnePlus 5T to abandon the virtual buttons of their interface in favor of the gestures popularized by the iPhone X! The iPhone X is the first iPhone not to be equipped with the famous Home button below the screen. To adapt to its new borderless screen, which almost completely covers its front, Apple had to develop a new way to navigate on iOS. To access multitasking, to open or close applications, iPhone users simply scan the screen with their fingers. Very intuitive, these new gestures were quickly adopted by iPhone X users.
OnePlus 5T: a beta version inspired by the iPhone X to disrupt navigation on Android
Obviously, this new gesture pleased the developers of OnePlus. Open Beta 3, the latest public test version of Android Oreo, currently available on the OnePlus 5T, offers a new way to navigate an Android smartphone. Very much in tune with the trend of borderless screens, this option hides the traditional navigation bar of Android, present since the beginning of the operating system.
Once this option is enabled, you will be able to scan your screen to navigate your Android. For example, as on an iPhone X, to return to the home screen, you will have to scan from bottom to top. At first, these gestures can disturb users. That's why OnePlus has set up a little tutorial. The gesture offered by OnePlus copies almost all the navigation gestures of the iPhone X. The only major difference: the gesture of return scan is more assertive than on iOS. OnePlus has indeed taken into account the habits of users of Android, used to the presence of a "Back" button. For reminder, the stable version of Android Oreo is currently being deployed on OnePlus 5T. A priori, this option is not present in the final version offered by OnePlus. To download the beta version and test for yourself these new navigation gestures, follow the following maneuver:
If you are already using a beta version, you will receive a notification as soon as the update is available.
If this is not the case, go to the official OnePlus website.
Click on download OnePlus 5T OxygenOS Open Beta 3.
Connect your smartphone to your PC via a USB cable.
Copy the .zip file from the update to the storage of your OnePlus 5T
Reset your smartphone to "recovery" mode: turn it off and restart it by holding down the power and volume buttons.
Then select "Install from internal storage", choose the .zip file and install it.
Your OnePlus 5T will now install the beta before restarting.
What do you think of this new gesture? Are you ready to say goodbye to the traditional navigation bar of Android for these new navigation gestures borrowed from the iPhone X? Is this the future of 18: 9 borderless screens?
