The planned obsolescence is a real plague that affects all kinds of consumer electronics devices like printers. A Frenchman has managed to find a solution to make them more durable. While the government is looking for solutions to combat planned obsolescence, this initiative proves that it is possible to have more resilient and easily repairable devices. This is a particularly ambitious project in which Paul Morin has launched, as FranceInter points out. The 27-year-old is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Creation Industrielle. He created a printer that is easily repairable since each of the parts that compose it is easily replaceable. A commendable initiative as a member of Parliament wants tougher sanctions against companies that are planning obsolescence.
Programmed obsolescence: a Frenchman invents the indestructible printer
This idea came to him when he found that consumer printers sometimes broke down for no apparent reason, forcing users to constantly replace their machines. That's not all since Paul Morin has also decided to launch an application to share his printer with his neighbors. This again avoids unnecessary waste especially since many consumers do not necessarily need to own one, according to the inventor.
"Instead of being hidden, the consumables – paper and ink – are outside the machine which allows to immediately visualize their consumption. In addition, the supply of ink per tank (instead of cartridges) reduces the amount of waste while allowing the use of non-standard color inks. Accurate Paul Morin on his site.Paul Morin does not stop so well and intends to start his own business, he does not want his invention falls into the hands of large companies in the sector. While the government wants to actively fight against the planned obsolescence, the initiative of Paul Morin is commendable, hope that his device finds the way to success.
