The luxury smartphone is not dead. Chinese manufacturer Tsinghua Tongfang is present at the Baselworld 2018 watchmaking fair to unveil its new brand, 8848, and its first two smartphone models.
8848 is the height of Mount Everest for us Westerners. In China, the 8 is also a lucky number – in Mandarin, its sound is close to the word "fortune" -. The name was therefore quite logically imposed on the manufacturer Tsinghua Tongfang a few years ago.
Kept very confidential until today, the brand welcomes two smartphones in limited edition. A bit like Vertu, the inspiration for this new 8848 collection is based on the expertise of a great name in watchmaking, Kari Voutilainen. On the back of the camera, the drawing of a watch representing the symbols and colors of the sunset for the Sunset model and the deep night for the Azurite, all engraved on a Dutch calfskin. A plated titanium alloy also invites itself to the party.
Features include data security – two accounts configurable and lockable via fingerprints, advanced encryption, integrated anti-virus, etc. -. At the component level, there is a Snapdragon 820, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, a 21 MP Sony camera …
The price is up to the luxury offered: € 2,500.
